Congo: Robbers board merchant vessel at Pointe Noire Anchorage 04 September A merchant vessel was boarded at 0140 hrs local time while anchored at Pointe Noire Anchorage. The security team onboard the vessel reportedly spotted an unspecified number of unauthorised persons onboard the vessel. The crew proceeded to raise the alarm, and a search was performed but the intruders could not be located. Vessel and crew were reported safe.   PGI Analysis: Non-violent robberies are sporadically reported at Pointe Noire Anchorage and assailants are usually easily deterred by basic security procedures such as raising the alarm. Indonesia: Robbers board tug near Pulau Bintan 09 August An unspecified number of robbers boarded an Indonesia-flagged tug towing barge at around 1800 hrs local time, approximately 14 nm northeast of Pulau Bintan. They stole some mattress protectors from a container on the barge, while it was anchored off Pulau Bintan. The master discovered that the items on board the barge were missing upon arrival at Crystal Offshore Yard, Singapore, on 10 August at 1200 hrs local time. The incident was reported to Singapore Port Operation Control Centre and Singapore Police Coast Guard. Indonesia: Robbers steal from tug in Batam anchorage 21 August Five robbers armed with knives boarded an anchored Singapore-flagged tug at 0440 hrs local time in Batam Anchorage. Crew were alerted to the incident and raised the alarm. The crew then mustered in a safe location and called the local authorities who responded and boarded the tug for investigations. Deck and engine room spares were reported stolen. Malaysia: Authorities arrest three suspected pirates off Tanjung Piai 03 August Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) agents arrested three suspected pirates off Tanjung Piai, Johor, at 0830 hrs local time. MMEA arrested the suspects after identifying a suspicious small wooden boat without registration.   Indonesia: Robbers approach chemical tanker at Tanjung Uban anchorage 07 August Three robbers in a wooden boat came alongside an anchored Panama-flagged chemical tanker at 0400 hrs local time in Tanjung Uban anchorage. They attempted to board the tanker using hooks attached with ropes. The duty officer on security rounds on the bridge noticed the robbers and raised the alarm, sounded the ship's whistle and shouted at the robbers. Hearing the alarm and seeing the alert crew, the robbers aborted the attempted boarding and escaped.   PGI Analysis: Robbers often target vessels at anchorages and in nearby waters across Indonesia, particularly overnight and in the early hours of the morning to take advantage of low visibility. Indonesia: Robbers steal from tug at Batam 23 July Four robbers in a boat approached and boarded a berthed offshore tug at 0700 hrs local time in PT Dharma Sentosa Marindo Yard, Batam. Crew on routine rounds noticed footprints on the main deck. Further checks revealed that a storeroom padlock was broken. The alarm was raised and crew mustered. The vessel's properties were reported stolen. On 24 July, a suspicious boat came alongside the same tug with two persons onboard at 0500 hrs local time. One of them was armed with a knife.
