US Navy Seizes hundreds of small arms in Gulf of Aden
The USS Jason Dunham seized hundreds of small arms from an unflagged vessel in the Gulf of Aden late in the evening of 28th August, according to a Pentagon official.
The vessel was described as a dhow. The dhow’s crew allowed the USS Navy crew to board upon its request to do so.
The weapons, which may exceed 1000 in number, including Kalashnikov-type rifles.
The crew of the vessel were detained on the USS Jason Dunam for questioning.
The source and destination of the vessel were not immediately clear, though the US has previously seized vessels in the area connected to Iranian support for Houthi rebels.
The US is analysing the evidence on board the dhow to determine the boat’s origin and destination, the official said.
