Officers of the Civil Guard in Spain have detained two suspected Islamist militant recruiters in the eastern city of Mataro – just to the North of Barcelona.
Both suspects are reported to be Moroccan nationals and are accused of radicalising individuals in the Barcelona and Tarragona regions and sending them to conflict zones to fight with Islamic Militant groups. The two men were detained at around 0600 hrs local time on 1st August and officers conducted searches at their apartments.
The raids were carried out by specialist units of the armed Civil Guard Information Service and were triggered by an investigation that began toward the end of 2015 with the cooperation of police services from several countries.
