East Africa and the Indian Ocean Yemen: Four skiffs approach merchant vessel 24 nm off Perim Island 28 August   A merchant vessel reported that it was approached by four skiffs with five to six persons on board each at 0602 hrs local time 24 nm off Perim Island in the Bab el Mandeb. The skiffs came within 0.8 nm of the vessel, although they turned away when armed security showed their weapons. Armed Security team on board showed weapons, skiffs then altered course. East Africa and the Indian Ocean  Yemen: Houthis reportedly attack coalition warship at Mokha 12 August   The Houthi-controlled news agency SABA has claimed that the Houthi naval forces targeted and hit a warship belonging to the Saudi-led coalition while it was anchored at Mokha port, on the Red Sea. However, a coalition spokesperson has denied the report, instead claiming that the Houthis had attempted to attack Mokha port in the early hours of 12 August using a remote-controlled boat packed with explosives. The coalition forces reportedly detected the boat 5 km off the coast and intercepted it to divert it from its initial trajectory.   West Africa  Nigeria: Update: Pirates kidnap two officers, three crew from vessel off Bonny 2 August Pirates who boarded the Panama-flagged merchant vessel Oya 1 some 15 nm southwest of Bonny Island on 30 July kidnapped two officers and three crew members. The Nigerian navy towed the ship to a safe port for investigation following the attack. There were no immediate ransom demands reported.   East Africa and the Indian OceanYemen: Skiff approaches vessel in Gulf of Aden 29 July   A merchant vessel reported being approached on three occasions by a single skiff travelling at 25 knots on the vessel's starboard side between 1930 and 2030 hrs local time around 20 nm north of the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC), Gulf of Aden. The closest the skiff approached the vessel was within roughly 185 metres. Warning shots were fired and the skiff turned away.
